RHINO RIDE

400 Miles in 24 hours for 6 Charities

Rhino Ride is a self-supported, donation only (donations in lieu of a registration fee) event that gives you optimal options to accomplish your distance goal(s). 

Whether you are new to cycling or an experienced cyclist, there is a distance option for you. All the routes are small city traffic roads extending out to rural roads with a shoulder. These routes are about as safe as you can get with multiple gas station stops along the way. There are many route distances to mix and match to get the furthest distance you desire.

The groups will depart on Saturday, February 20^th at 7am.  The distance options are 102 miles, 50 miles, and 31 miles. On the 102 mile ride there will be 2 SAG stops and there are 10 gas stations spread out along the way. The gas stations have restrooms and the SAG stops will have snacks and water. We plan to have a truck to help with flat tires or pick people up who can’t finish the ride.

The way that this ride is set up is you can be new to cycling and have a nice ride of 31 miles and push yourself a bit. You can be a seasoned cyclist and do exactly what you have been training for and do a quick 50 or 102 miles. There might be someone who wants to do the most miles they’ve ever done and do both the 102 and 31 mile routes. Or you could do the 102 and 50 or the 102, 50, and 31. 

You are welcome to join me Friday evening and do the entire planned Rhino Ride consisting of 400 miles in 24 hours.  The Rhino Ride starts and ends at my house. I have a very large play room with 3 TVs for Zwift and there is plenty of parking. Family and friends can come and go as they need.

The Rhino Ride will start Friday night, February 19^th at 7pm in Middleburg, Florida. I have set a goal of reaching 400 miles in 24 hours. The first 12 hours will be on a smart trainer on the Zwift platform riding the Watopia Fuego Flats. The Fuego Flats feel really close to outdoor Florida riding. In that 12 hours on Zwift, I will be going for 200 miles plus. 

At 7am Saturday morning, the 24 hour riders will leave out with the group ride on the 102 mile route. That route comes back to my house where we started. If anyone wants to push themselves, the next ride leaves out around 12-1pm on the 50 mile route. The last leg to finish up the 200 plus miles is planned to leave out for the 50 mile route around 4pm finishing before 7pm.

This will be a donation only ride.  Planning a cycling event is a new experience for me.   I am really putting this together in response to the cancellation of the Sebring 12/24 ride.
